TESLA MODEL S / PLAID FITMENT

The Tesla Model S Refresh (2021–2024) is one of the most extreme performance sedans ever built. The Plaid variant produces 1,020 hp from three electric motors and traps 155+ mph in the quarter mile — making it one of the fastest accelerating cars on earth. It uses a 5x120 bolt pattern with a 64.1mm center bore. At over 4,800 lbs, the Model S is extraordinarily heavy — every pound of unsprung weight saved through forged wheels directly improves range, handling, braking distance, and ride quality. Cast wheels are not appropriate for this platform.

Quick Reference
Bolt Pattern: 5x120  |  Center Bore: 64.1mm  |  Hub Type: Conical Seat  |  Lug Torque: 175 Nm (129 ft-lb)
Critical: The Model S exceeds 4,800 lbs. All wheels must be forged and rated for minimum 900kg per wheel load capacity. Do not use wheels designed for lighter vehicles.

20" Staggered — Performance Standard

20-inch staggered is the performance sweet spot — it provides the visual presence the Model S's long, low body demands while maintaining practical sidewall height for daily driving.

01

20" Balanced Stagger

Aggressive looks with optimized range and handling.

  • Recommended Front: 20x9.5 ET40
  • Recommended Rear: 20x10.5 ET45
  • Street Tires: 265/35R20 Front, 295/30R20 Rear
  • Performance Tires: 275/30R20 Front, 305/30R20 Rear

Why this setup: A forged 20x9.5 at ~22 lbs replaces the factory 28+ lb cast Tempest or Arachnid wheels — saving approximately 24 lbs per set. This translates to 3–5% range improvement AND noticeably improved steering response. The Plaid's 1,020 hp demands wide rear tires — 295mm minimum is recommended. The instant torque from three electric motors puts more stress on the rear tires during acceleration than any comparably powerful ICE car. The 10.5" rear barrel provides the platform for proper 295/305mm tire mounting.

19" Staggered — Range & Comfort

For Model S owners who prioritize range and ride comfort, the 19-inch setup is transformative — more sidewall, less rolling resistance, and a dramatically smoother ride.

02

19" Range-Optimized Stagger

Maximum range with improved ride comfort.

  • Recommended Front: 19x9 ET40
  • Recommended Rear: 19x10 ET45
  • Tires: 245/45R19 Front, 275/40R19 Rear

Why this setup: The taller sidewall at 19" provides noticeably better ride comfort — a significant improvement on the Model S's stiff EV platform. The narrower tires reduce rolling resistance for maximum range. A forged 19-inch set saves 28+ lbs over factory 21-inch Arachnid wheels while gaining range and comfort. Maintain factory rolling diameters precisely to avoid speedometer errors and traction control miscalibration.

Model S / Plaid Tire Selection Guide

  • Range Optimized: Michelin Pilot Sport EV — designed for heavy EVs. Reduced rolling resistance with excellent grip. The foam insert reduces cabin noise.
  • Street Performance: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S — maximum grip for Plaid owners who exploit the car's performance. The stiff sidewall handles the Model S's massive weight without deflection.
  • All-Season: Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus — year-round confidence. Strong dry grip with cold-weather capability.
  • Drag Strip: Nitto NT555 RII (305/30R20 rear) — maximum longitudinal traction for Plaid owners chasing quarter-mile times.
