VOLKSWAGEN GOLF R FITMENT

The Volkswagen Golf R (Mk7 2015–2021, Mk8 2022–2024) is the AWD performance king of the MQB platform, producing 315 hp in Mk8 form. It uses a 5x112 bolt pattern with a 57.1mm center bore. The Golf R's Haldex AWD system, wider rear track, and upgraded brakes over the GTI allow for aggressive flush fitments. The Golf R benefits enormously from unsprung weight reduction to improve its heavy AWD acceleration characteristics.

Quick Reference
Bolt Pattern: 5x112  |  Center Bore: 57.1mm  |  Hub Type: Ball Seat (OEM) / Conical (Aftermarket)  |  Lug Torque: 120 Nm (89 ft-lb)
AWD Warning: Always run square tire setups to protect the Haldex AWD system.

19" Square — The Street Standard

19 inches is the enthusiast standard for the Golf R, filling the arches dramatically while maintaining clearance for the massive factory brakes.

01

19" Flush Square

The show-and-go daily driver — dramatic visual presence with real performance gains.

  • Recommended Size: 19x8.5 ET45 all around
  • Street Tires: 235/35R19 or 245/35R19 Square

Why this setup: The Golf R's wider rear arches accommodate 19-inch wheels perfectly. ET40–ET45 is the safe range. A forged 19x8.5 at ~18 lbs replaces the factory 24+ lb Estoril or Spielberg wheels, dramatically reducing rotational mass. The Mk8 R's torque-vectoring rear differential benefits from consistent, sticky tire widths front and rear.

18" Square — Track & Performance Focus

For those prioritizing ride quality over broken pavement, or owners dedicating their car to HPDE, 18-inch wheels provide more sidewall and significantly lighter weight.

02

18" Lightweight Track Square

The serious track setup — wider rubber, lighter wheels, more sidewall protection.

  • Recommended Size: 18x8.5 ET45 (Safe) or 18x9 ET42 (Aggressive) all around
  • Track Tires (200TW): 245/40R18 or 255/35R18 Square

Why this setup: 18x9 ET42 provides the widest fitment possible on stock fenders. The Golf R's larger front brakes clear 18-inch wheels, but spoke profile matters — our forged profiles are engineered to clear them. The heavier AWD R (3,400+ lbs) benefits even more than the GTI from shedding unsprung weight.
