VOLKSWAGEN GTI FITMENT
The Volkswagen GTI (Mk7 2015–2021, Mk8 2022–2024) is the quintessential hot hatch. It uses a 5x112 bolt pattern with a 57.1mm center bore, shared with Audi's MQB-platform cars. The GTI's relatively light curb weight (~3,100 lbs) and sophisticated multi-link rear suspension make it extremely responsive to wheel upgrades. Swapping the heavy factory cast wheels for lightweight forged alternatives is one of the most transformative single modifications available.

Fitment Note: The 57.1mm center bore is smaller than many 5x112 platforms (like Mercedes or newer Audis). Hub-centric rings are required for aftermarket wheels with a 66.6mm bore.

- Recommended Size: 18x8.5 ET45 all around
- Street Tires: 235/40R18 or 245/40R18 Square
Why this setup: ET42–ET48 is the safe range for the GTI. The Mk7 Performance Pack's larger front brakes clear 18-inch wheels easily. A forged 18x8.5 at ~16 lbs replaces the factory 22+ lb Austin or Dallas wheels — you'll feel the difference in the first corner. 245/40R18 is the maximum width without fender modifications on stock ride height.

For owners chasing lap times, moving to a 9-inch wide wheel maximizes the contact patch and straight-line traction for modified, high-torque GTIs.

18" Wide Track Square
Maximizing contact patch for HPDE, autocross, and aggressive canyon driving.
- Recommended Size: 18x9 ET42 all around
- Track Tires (200TW): 255/35R18 Square
- Note: May require fender screw modification (the "fender screw mod") and aggressive front camber on lowered cars.
Why this setup: The 255/35R18 is the maximum width without serious fender modifications on the GTI. The grip improvement over a stock 225/40R18 is enormous — expect 2+ seconds per minute on a typical track. Sub-17lb forged wheels in this spec are transformative for FWD acceleration.
