PORSCHE 992 GT3 FITMENT

The 992 GT3 introduced a revolutionary double-wishbone front suspension — a first for the road-going 911 — that dramatically improves front-end grip, camber control, and high-speed stability compared to the outgoing 991. Combined with the naturally aspirated 4.0L flat-six producing 502 hp and the option of a manual transmission, the 992 GT3 is one of the greatest driver's cars ever built. Getting the wheel sizing right is critical for unlocking its full potential without rubbing or creating clearance issues with the new front suspension geometry.

Quick Reference
Hub Type: Center Lock  |  Center Bore: 84mm  |  CL Torque: 450 Nm (332 ft-lb)
Note: All 992 GT3s are Center Lock. Some Touring models may see aftermarket 5-lug conversions, but the factory hub is always CL.

20"/21" Factory Stagger — Street & Canyon

Porsche transitioned the 992 GT3 to a 20/21-inch staggered setup from the factory. While visually stunning, this mixed-diameter configuration limits tire options compared to a 20" square — but for street, canyon, and spirited use, it's the ideal balance of aesthetics and performance.

01

20/21" Street & Canyon

The best setup for retaining the factory proportions and balance while upgrading wheel construction.

  • Recommended Front: 20x9.5 ET50
  • Recommended Rear: 21x12 ET48
  • Street Tires: 255/35R20 Front, 315/30R21 Rear
  • Performance Tires: 265/35R20 Front, 325/30R21 Rear

Why this setup: The 992 GT3's double-wishbone front suspension has tighter clearance tolerances than the old MacPherson strut design — which means offset precision is more critical than ever. ET50 front positions the wheel perfectly within the new geometry. The 12" rear at 21" fills the GT3's wide rear fenders to their limit. The mixed diameter creates a dramatic visual profile with the larger rear wheel emphasizing the car's rear-biased weight distribution. Forged wheels at these specs save 3–5 lbs per corner versus the factory option — meaningful on a car that already weighs under 3,200 lbs.

20" Square — Dedicated Track Configuration

For owners who take their 992 GT3 to the track regularly, stepping down to 20-inch all around opens up a massive selection of 200TW tires and DOT R-compounds. The uniform diameter also simplifies tire logistics — one size fits all four corners of the car.

02

20" Track Stagger (same diameter)

Maximum tire selection with simplified logistics for track weekends.

  • Recommended Front: 20x9.5 ET50
  • Recommended Rear: 20x12 ET45
  • Track Tires (200TW): 265/35R20 Front, 325/30R20 Rear
  • R-Compound: 275/35R20 Front, 335/30R20 Rear

Why this setup: The 21" rear tire selection for track use is limited — most R-compound and 200TW tires are designed around 18–20" diameters where the molds already exist. Dropping the rear to 20" unlocks access to the Nankang AR-1, Goodyear Supercar 3R, and Michelin Cup 2 in the wide 325/330mm rear sizes. The additional sidewall at 20" (vs. 21") also provides more curb compliance — critical insurance when pushing hard over aggressive track surfaces. Some owners with steel brakes also run 19" square, but clearance around the 992's rear suspension components is tight — 20" is the safer, recommended minimum.

992 GT3 Tire Selection Guide

The 992 GT3's double-wishbone front makes it remarkably responsive to tire upgrades — the improved camber control means the front tires work harder and more consistently than on any previous 911.

  • Street Performance: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S — the default recommendation for street driving. Exceptional wet grip and a progressive, forgiving limit that suits the rear-engine layout.
  • Street/Track Hybrid: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R — the stiffest sidewall in the Cup 2 family. Designed specifically for cars with high downforce and aggressive suspension setups. Sharper turn-in than the standard Cup 2.
  • Track Day (200TW): Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R — incredible heat tolerance for multi-stint sessions. Designed for Corvette and Porsche-class vehicles. Available in 325/30R20 rear.
  • Competition R-Compound: Nankang AR-1 — the value king. Delivers exceptional grip at a fraction of the cost of Michelin or Goodyear options. Ideal for club racing and time attack.
  • Racing Slicks (19"): Pirelli P-Zero DH or Michelin Pilot Sport Slicks — for steel-brake cars running 19" wheels. The fastest tire category available. Used in Porsche Carrera Cup worldwide.

Understanding the 992 GT3's Front Suspension

The switch to double-wishbone front suspension changes the rules for wheel fitment compared to the 991:

  • Tighter inner clearance: The double-wishbone geometry places suspension components closer to the inner barrel of the wheel. Offset precision is critical — running lower offsets than recommended (below ET48 front) can cause interference with the upper control arm at full steering lock.
  • Better camber control: The new suspension maintains more consistent tire contact through corners, which means the front tires work harder and heat more evenly. This allows you to run slightly wider front tires (265mm vs. factory 255mm) without the inside edge wearing prematurely.
  • Stiffer front end: The double-wishbone design is inherently stiffer than MacPherson struts, which means the front responds more immediately to wheel weight changes. The weight savings from forged construction are amplified on this platform.
