NISSAN SKYLINE GT-R (R32 / R33 / R34) FITMENT

The Skyline GT-R is the most legendary nameplate in Japanese automotive history. The R32, R33, and R34 share the iconic RB26DETT twin-turbo inline-six and the ATTESA E-TS AWD system that dominated Group A racing and earned the "Godzilla" nickname. These are now among the most valuable JDM cars in existence — R34 GT-R values have crossed $500,000+ for clean examples. Every modification must be approached with an eye toward both performance and preservation.

Quick Reference
Bolt Pattern: 5x114.3  |  Center Bore: 66.1mm  |  Hub Type: Conical Seat  |  Lug Torque: 108 Nm (80 ft-lb)
AWD Warning: The ATTESA E-TS AWD system is extremely sensitive to mismatched rolling diameters. Square setups are strongly recommended. If running a stagger, total tire diameters MUST match front to rear.

18" Mild Stagger — Street & Show

While the GT-R is AWD, a mild stagger (1" width difference) is generally tolerated by the ATTESA system as long as rolling diameters are matched via careful tire selection. This fills the R33/R34's wider rear fenders proportionally.

01

18" Aggressive Stagger

Filling the iconic box fenders while respecting the AWD geometry.

  • Recommended Front: 18x9.5 ET22
  • Recommended Rear: 18x10.5 ET22
  • Street Tires: 265/35R18 Front, 285/35R18 Rear
  • Performance Tires: 275/35R18 Front, 295/35R18 Rear
  • Critical: With a 1" width stagger, choose tire sizes with matching overall diameters. Verify rolling circumference with your tire manufacturer's specifications before purchasing.

Why this setup: ET22 on both axles pushes the wheels outward to sit flush with the GT-R's iconic blistered fenders. The R34's slightly wider rear quarters accommodate the 10.5" rear comfortably. The RB26's 276 hp factory output (easily 400+ with basic bolt-ons and a tune) benefits from the wider rear tire — the car's rearward torque bias under the ATTESA system means the rear tires work harder during acceleration. A forged wheel saving 3–4 lbs per corner on a 3,400 lb car has immediate effects — the RB26 rewards every pound saved with sharper throttle response.

18" Square — AWD-Safe Track

The safest configuration for the ATTESA system. Equal rolling diameters at all four corners eliminate any risk of transfer case or front differential damage, and the square setup enables tire rotation to extend tread life.

02

18" Square Track

Protecting the legendary ATTESA system with equal rolling diameters.

  • Recommended Size: 18x9.5 ET22 all around
  • Track Tires (200TW): 265/35R18 Square
  • R-Compound: 275/35R18 Square
  • R32 Note: The R32 has slightly tighter front fenders than the R33/R34 — confirm clearance below ET20 on the R32.

Why this setup: A square 265mm tire on all four corners provides massive combined grip for a 3,400 lb AWD car. The ATTESA system was designed for rally-stage conditions where all four tires share the workload equally — a square setup lets the system operate as intended, creating predictable, balanced handling. Forged lightweight wheels are essential for these cars — the RB26's reciprocating mass is already minimal, and lighter wheels allow the suspension to react faster to surface changes.

Skyline GT-R Tire Selection Guide

  • Street Performance: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (265/35R18 square) — the benchmark for modern street performance. Excellent wet grip for a car likely worth protecting from poor weather.
  • Track Day (200TW): Yokohama Advan A052 (265/35R18 square) — highest peak grip. The GT-R on A052s exploits the ATTESA system's full potential.
  • Time Attack: Nankang AR-1 (275/35R18 square) — outstanding value in R-compound rubber. Consistent, durable, and cost-effective for frequent track use.
  • Show/Cruise: Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS (265/35R18 square) — excellent dry grip with a firm sidewall that complements the GT-R's period-correct driving feel.

Generation-Specific Notes

  • R32: Tightest front fenders of the three. ET20 minimum recommended for the front. The BNR32's fender profile is more curved, creating less clearance at the top of the arch.
  • R33: Slightly wider overall than the R32. The R33 GT-R accommodates ET22 at both axles without issue. The longest wheelbase of the three creates the most stable high-speed handling.
  • R34: The most aggressively flared of the three. ET18 is possible with fender rolling. The R34's boxy, muscular fender design provides the most visual impact with properly filled wheels.
  • All generations: These are rapidly appreciating collector cars. Choose setups that don't require fender modification. ET22 is the universal safe recommendation across all three generations.
