PORSCHE 718 CAYMAN / BOXSTER FITMENT

The mid-engine architecture of the Porsche 718 makes it one of the most balanced platforms on the planet. With the engine positioned directly behind the driver and ahead of the rear axle, every gram of unsprung weight reduction is immediately felt through the steering wheel. Proper wheel sizing enhances this balance without upsetting the factory suspension geometry — and on a car this precise, even small changes in offset or width are noticeable. All 718 variants share the same 5x130 bolt pattern and 71.6mm center bore (except RS models, which use Center Lock).

Quick Reference
Bolt Pattern: 5x130  |  Center Bore: 71.6mm  |  Hub Type: Ball Seat  |  Lug Torque: 130 Nm (96 ft-lb)
Hardware Note: Stock hub depth requires a 27mm shank lug bolt. If you run spacers, step up accordingly (e.g., 5mm spacer = 32mm shank). Never run a bolt without at least 8–10 full threads of engagement.

Base / S / T / GTS — Street & Track

Standard 5-lug 718 models have a narrower rear track width than the GT4, so offset selection is critical to achieving a proper flush stance without rubbing. These cars are perfectly suited for both 19" and 20" configurations depending on your priorities.

01

20" Street Setup

The ideal configuration for street-focused builds where visual impact and ride quality on smooth roads are priorities.

  • Recommended Front: 20x8.5 ET42 or 20x9 ET42
  • Recommended Rear: 20x10.5 ET45
  • Street Tires: 235/35R20 Front, 275/30R20 Rear
  • Performance Tires: 245/35R20 Front, 285/30R20 Rear

Why this setup: ET42 front sits flush with the fender lip on stock-height cars without requiring any bodywork. The 20" diameter showcases spoke design and deep concavity. The Porsche's mid-engine layout makes the front axle exceptionally responsive to weight changes — a forged 20" front wheel can be 3–4 kg lighter than the factory cast option, creating immediately noticeable improvements in turn-in speed.

19" Track Setup

Dropping to 19 inches reduces unsprung and rotational mass significantly (1.5–2 kg per corner vs. 20"), and the taller sidewall provides more tire deflection for curb compliance and rough track surfaces.

  • Recommended Front: 19x9 ET42
  • Recommended Rear: 19x10.5 ET45
  • Track Tires (200TW): 245/35R19 Front, 285/30R19 Rear
  • R-Compound: 255/35R19 Front, 295/30R19 Rear

Why this setup: The 718 is one of the lightest modern Porsches, and every kilogram matters. Running forged 19" wheels on track tires creates one of the most rewarding driver experiences available — the steering becomes telepathic, braking distances shrink, and the car changes direction with almost no effort.

GT4 & Spyder

The GT4 and Spyder feature a 40mm wider rear track than the standard 718, courtesy of wider rear suspension arms and spring plates borrowed from the 911. This demands a wider 11" rear wheel — running a 10.5" rear will sit noticeably inset and look disproportionate on the GT4's wider rear quarters.

03

GT4 / Spyder 20" & 19" Setups

Wider rear wheels to properly fill the GT4's aggressive stance.

  • 20" Setup: 20x9 ET45 Front / 20x11 ET49 Rear
  • 19" Setup: 19x9 ET45 Front / 19x11 ET49 Rear
  • 20" Tires: 245/35R20 Front, 295/30R20 Rear
  • 19" Tires: 245/35R19 Front, 295/30R19 Rear
  • PCCB Note: If equipped with Carbon Ceramic Brakes (yellow calipers), you must run 20-inch wheels for clearance. The massive 380mm rotor/caliper package cannot fit behind a 19" barrel.

GT4 RS & Spyder RS — Center Lock

The RS models utilize Porsche's specialized Center Lock hub system, designed to handle the extreme aero downforce and lateral loads generated at track speeds. These wheels are purpose-built for the center lock interface — do not run 5-lug adapter plates on an RS-spec car.

04

Dedicated Center-Lock Setup

Precision-engineered OEM+ fitment for the most capable 718 variants.

  • Recommended: 20x8.5 ET47 Front / 20x11 ET50 Rear
  • Center Bore: 84mm (Center Lock)
  • Torque Spec: 400 Nm (295 ft-lb) — use a proper 90mm hex socket and calibrated torque wrench
  • Tires: 245/35R20 Front, 305/30R20 Rear

Why this setup: The 11J rear allows for a 305/30-20 rear tire to match the RS's rear diffuser and aero package. The center lock system eliminates the weight and complexity of five individual studs, reducing unsprung mass and simplifying pit-lane wheel changes for endurance events.

718 Tire Selection Guide

The 718's mid-engine balance means tire selection has an outsized impact on how the car behaves at the limit.

  • Street Performance: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S — the default recommendation. Exceptional wet grip, low noise, and a predictable transition from grip to slip that suits the mid-engine layout perfectly.
  • Street/Track Hybrid: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 — significantly more grip than the PS4S, but with a narrower operating window. Best for dry-weather canyon drives and occasional track days.
  • Track Day (200TW): Yokohama Advan A052 — highest peak grip in the 200TW class. Pairs exceptionally well with the GT4 and RS on dedicated track setups.
  • Endurance Racing: Nankang AR-1 — a durable, consistent R-compound tire that holds up to multi-stint racing. Popular in PCA Club Racing and SCCA endurance series.
