PORSCHE 991 GT3 FITMENT
The 991 generation GT3 — both 991.1 (2014–2016) and 991.2 (2017–2019) — set a new benchmark for accessible track performance. Powered by a naturally aspirated 3.8L or 4.0L flat-six producing 475–500 hp, these cars combine raw mechanical grip with a level of chassis precision that rewards every upgrade you throw at them. Choosing the right wheel diameter is critical for unlocking the best tire combinations for your specific driving style and brake configuration.
Quick Reference
Hub Type: Center Lock | Center Bore: 84mm | CL Torque: 450 Nm (332 ft-lb)
Hardware: Use a proper 90mm hex socket and calibrated torque wrench. Re-torque after the first 50–100 km. Never use an impact gun without a torque-limiting adapter.
20" Staggered — Street & Canyon Standard
The 20-inch staggered setup is the factory spec and the best choice for cars that see significant street miles, canyon drives, and the occasional track day. At 20 inches, you have access to the full catalog of ultra-high-performance street tires and the best DOT-legal track tires on the market.
01
20" Factory Stagger
Retains factory aesthetics and handling balance. The definitive street/canyon configuration.
- Recommended Front: 20x9 ET50
- Recommended Rear: 20x12 ET45
- Street Tires: 245/35R20 Front, 305/30R20 Rear
- Track Tires (200TW): 255/35R20 Front, 315/30R20 Rear
Why this setup: The 20" diameter allows the GT3's massive brake package to breathe, and the 305mm rear tire provides extraordinary rear traction for the naturally aspirated flat-six's broad powerband. On canyon roads, the wide rear tire gives you confidence to stay on the throttle through long sweeping corners, while the 245mm front provides sharp turn-in without overwhelming the front axle. Switching from factory forged to Grip Theory forged wheels can still save 2–3 lbs per corner through optimized spoke design — significant on a car where every gram matters.
19" Staggered — Dedicated Track Weapon
For dedicated track cars equipped with steel (iron) brakes, dropping to 19 inches provides a massive advantage in tire selection and cost. The 19-inch diameter is the gateway to true motorsport slicks — Pirelli DH, Michelin Pilot Sport Slicks, and Yokohama Advan A005 — which are primarily manufactured in 18" and 19" for GT-class racing series.

19" Track Setup — Slick Access
The gateway to real racing rubber. Purpose-built for lap time extraction.
- Recommended Front: 19x9 ET50 or 19x9.5 ET50
- Recommended Rear: 19x12 ET45
- DOT Track Tires: 255/35R19 Front, 305/30R19 Rear
- Slicks: 255/660R19 Front, 305/680R19 Rear
Why this setup: The 19-inch diameter provides more sidewall for curb compliance, which is critical on aggressive track surfaces. The taller sidewall also creates a slightly softer tire carcass that's more forgiving at the limit — important when pushing a 500 hp rear-engine car to its absolute maximum. Weight savings of 3–5 lbs per corner versus the 20" setup compound with the lower rotational inertia of the smaller diameter, creating measurably faster transitions and shorter braking distances.

991 GT3 Tire Selection Guide
The 991 GT3's naturally aspirated engine and rear-engine layout create a unique tire dynamic — rear grip is paramount, but front tire feel is what lets you exploit the car's capabilities.
- Street Performance: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S — exceptional wet and dry grip with progressive breakaway. The ideal daily tire for GT3s that see regular road use.
- Street/Track Hybrid: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 / Cup 2 R — the factory tire. Incredible dry grip with a predictable transition. The Cup 2 R adds a stiffer sidewall for more precise turn-in under high-speed cornering loads.
- Track Day (200TW): Nankang AR-1 — durable, consistent, and available in all the right sizes. The workhorse R-compound for PCA and SCCA track events. Delivers 90% of the Cup 2's grip at 60% of the cost.
- Racing Slicks (19"): Pirelli P-Zero DH — the industry standard for GT racing. Used in Porsche Carrera Cup worldwide. Unmatched grip consistency across long stints.
- Racing Slicks (19"): Yokohama Advan A005 — a club racing favorite for its durability and predictable, progressive breakaway. More forgiving than the Pirelli at lower operating temperatures.
PCCB vs Steel Brakes — The Decision
Your brake system dictates your minimum wheel diameter:
- PCCB (Carbon Ceramic): Must run 20" minimum. The massive 410mm front rotors and their calipers cannot fit behind a 19" barrel. No exceptions.
- Steel (Iron) Brakes: Can run 19" or 20". Our 19" wheels are designed with generous spoke clearance for the factory steel brake calipers.
- Aftermarket BBK: If you've installed an aftermarket 410mm+ brake kit (AP Racing, Brembo GT), you'll likely need 20" wheels. Confirm caliper dimensions with us before ordering.
