BMW G80 M3 & G82 M4 FITMENT

The G8X generation marks a defining shift for BMW M cars. Built on the CLAR platform, these cars combine a twin-turbo S58 inline-six with an entirely new chassis architecture — including a transition from the long-standing 5x120 bolt pattern to 5x112. Factory Stagger — 19" Front / 20" Rear

The standard and most popular configuration for the G80/G82. A staggered diameter maintains the factory rolling ratios, keeping the xDrive system (if equipped) and traction control calibrations operating within spec. This setup is the go-to for owners who want the best of both worlds — aggressive aesthetics and optimal driving dynamics.

The definitive G8X setup. This fitment fills the fenders aggressively while preserving full-lock front clearance and providing access to the widest modern performance tires.

  • Recommended Front: 19x10 ET25 or 19x10.5 ET28
  • Recommended Rear: 20x11 ET25
  • Street Tires: 285/35R19 Front, 295/30R20 Rear
  • Aggressive Tires: 285/35R19 Front, 305/30R20 Rear (for drivers pushing the platform hard)

Running the same width and diameter at all four corners unlocks tire rotation (doubling tire life during track weekends), reduces understeer, and gives access to the best 200TW track tires and racing slicks available in one common size.

19" Square Track Focus

A square setup drastically improves turn-in response and reduces the G8X's tendency toward understeer at the limit. Equal-width tires front and rear create a more neutral, exploitable balance at high cornering loads.

  • Recommended Size: 19x10.5 ET28 all around
  • Track Tires (200TW): 285/35R19 or 295/30R19 Square
  • Slicks: 285/680R19 or 305/680R19 (confirm clearance with alignment shop)
  • Alignment Note: Front camber plates are highly recommended when running wide, sticky front tires. Target -2.5° to -3.5° front camber for optimal tire wear and grip at track speeds.

Why this setup: Running square eliminates the rolling diameter mismatch inherent in staggered setups, which means the xDrive system doesn't need to constantly correct. On RWD cars, the balanced mechanical grip front-to-rear creates a more predictable car at the limit — you can rotate the car on throttle instead of fighting understeer. The 19-inch diameter also provides more sidewall for curb strikes and rough track surfaces, protecting your investment.

Tire Selection Guide

Choosing the right tire for your driving style is just as important as the wheel itself. Here are our top picks for the G8X platform:

  • Street Performance: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S — the benchmark for daily-driven performance cars. Exceptional wet and dry grip, low road noise, and predictable breakaway characteristics.
  • Street/Track Hybrid: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 — for owners who split their time between canyon roads and occasional track days. Significantly more grip than the PS4S, but wears faster and is less effective in cold/wet conditions.
  • Track Day (200TW): Yokohama Advan A052 or Toyo Proxes R888R — purpose-built heat-cycle tires that deliver massive grip at high operating temperatures. The A052 offers higher peak grip; the R888R is more forgiving and lasts longer.
  • Competition R-Compound: Nankang AR-1 or Hoosier R7 — for serious time attack and club racing. The AR-1 is the budget-friendly workhorse; the Hoosier R7 is faster but more temperature-sensitive.

Understanding Offset on the G8X

Offset determines how far inboard or outboard your wheel sits relative to the hub mounting face. On the G8X, this is especially important because the car has relatively narrow front fenders compared to its wide rear quarters.

  • Lower offset (ET20–ET25): Pushes the wheel outward for a more aggressive, flush stance. This is ideal for the factory ride height and provides the best visual fill. Going below ET20 on the front will likely contact the inner fender liner at full steering lock.
  • Higher offset (ET30–ET40): Tucks the wheel inboard. Useful if you're running coilovers at a lower ride height, as it provides more inner fender clearance. However, the wheel will appear sunken from the fender lip.
  • Wider wheels: Going from 10" to 10.5" wide adds approximately 12.5mm of wheel face. This requires a proportional offset increase to maintain the same fender clearance. A 10.5" wide wheel at ET28 sits in roughly the same position as a 10" wide wheel at ET22.
Bolt Pattern Reminder: All G8X generation BMWs (G80 M3, G82 M4, G83 M4 Convertible) use a 5x112 bolt pattern. Your older F80/F82 5x120 wheels will NOT fit this chassis. Do not attempt to cross-fit using adapters on a car producing this level of power.
