MERCEDES-AMG GT FITMENT

The C190 Mercedes-AMG GT, GTS, GTC, and GTR are built on a unique front-mid-engine, rear-transaxle architecture that creates a near 47/53 weight distribution. This layout — with the engine pushed back behind the front axle and the transmission at the rear — creates unique fitment challenges. The front wheels sit deep inside the long-nose fenders while the rears are exposed under wide, muscular haunches. This means significantly different offsets are needed front to rear, and the high front offsets (ET45–ET55) can surprise owners accustomed to conventional front-engine sports cars.

Quick Reference
Bolt Pattern: 5x112  |  Center Bore: 66.6mm  |  Hub Type: Ball Seat  |  Lug Torque: 130 Nm (96 ft-lb)
Note: The AMG GT's extreme front offsets (ET45–ET55) are unique to this platform. Do not use standard Mercedes C-Class or E-Class wheel specs.

19"/20" Staggered — Street Standard

The factory combination pairs 19-inch fronts with 20-inch rears. Maintaining this split preserves the transaxle car's unique proportions and the visual drama of the long hood / wide rear silhouette.

01

19/20" Factory Stagger

Matching the factory diameter split while upgrading to forged construction.

  • Recommended Front: 19x10 ET50
  • Recommended Rear: 20x12 ET45
  • Street Tires: 275/35R19 Front, 305/30R20 Rear
  • Performance Tires: 285/35R19 Front, 315/30R20 Rear

Why this setup: The AMG GT's long-nose architecture pushes the front wheels deep inside the fender wells, requiring ET50 to keep the wheel face from interfering with the inner fender structure. The rear is much more accommodating — the wide haunches and rear-transaxle layout create generous clearance for the 12" wide rear wheel. The 305/315mm rear tire gives the 4.0L twin-turbo's 469–577 hp (depending on model) a proper contact patch. On a transaxle car, the rear tires bear the majority of the weight, making rear grip even more critical than on a conventional front-engine layout.

20" Square — Track Configuration

For AMG GT owners who take their car to the track seriously, a uniform 20-inch setup simplifies tire logistics while providing exceptional grip.

02

20" Square Track

Simplified logistics with maximum grip for focused track use.

  • Recommended Size: 20x10.5 ET45 all around
  • Track Tires (200TW): 285/35R20 Square
  • R-Compound: 295/30R20 Square
  • Note: The rear may appear slightly tucked in a square setup since the rear fenders are wider than the front. This is normal for a transaxle car and acceptable for track use. GTR models with the wider rear track may benefit from ET40 rear.

Why this setup: Equal-width tires improve front-end grip, which is the AMG GT's weak point at the limit. The front-mid-engine layout puts less weight on the front axle, so wider front tires compensate for the reduced mechanical grip. The 20" diameter clears all factory brake packages including the massive GTR carbon ceramics.

AMG GT Tire Selection Guide

  • Street Performance: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S — excellent wet and dry grip with a progressive breakaway. The default for daily-driven AMG GTs.
  • Street/Track Hybrid: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 — the factory option on GTS and GTR models. Significantly more dry grip with a predictable limit.
  • Track Day (200TW): Yokohama Advan A052 — highest peak grip. The AMG GT on A052s is a genuinely competitive track car.
  • Grand Touring: Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus — for AMG GT owners who tour long distances. Excellent highway comfort with respectable dry performance.

Understanding the Transaxle Layout & Offsets

  • Why the high front offset: The AMG GT's engine sits behind the front axle (front-mid-engine), and the long nose creates deep, enclosed front fender wells. The wheel must sit further inboard than on a conventional car to avoid the inner fender structure.
  • Why the lower rear offset: The rear transaxle and wide rear track create generous outer clearance. The rear wheels can sit further outboard, filling the muscular rear haunches.
  • GTR specifics: The GTR has a wider rear track than the base GT/GTS/GTC. It can accommodate slightly lower rear offsets (ET40 vs ET45) for a more aggressive rear stance.
