NISSAN GT-R (R35) FITMENT
The R35 GT-R is an engineering masterpiece that transmits enormous forces through its wheels. With the VR38DETT twin-turbo V6 producing 565+ hp (and many tuned examples exceeding 800–1,500+ hp), combined with the ATTESA E-TS AWD system and a 3,800+ lb curb weight, the GT-R demands wheels that can handle extreme loads under braking, cornering, and acceleration. Only forged construction wheels with verified load ratings should be used on this platform — cast wheels are NOT recommended. The factory 20-inch Rays forged wheels set a high baseline that aftermarket wheels must match or exceed.

Critical: Minimum recommended load rating is 900 kg per wheel. The GT-R's AWD system and weight transmit forces that exceed what most aftermarket wheels are designed for. All Grip Theory GT-R fitments are engineered and load-tested specifically for this platform.
20" OEM+ Stagger — The Safe Standard
The factory R35 runs a 20-inch staggered setup. Maintaining this diameter is strongly recommended to preserve the carefully calibrated ATTESA E-TS AWD geometry, speedometer accuracy, traction control calibrations, and suspension kinematics. Deviating from 20" can upset the AWD system's rolling diameter calculations and create driveline strain.

20" OEM+ Stagger
A conservative yet dramatically improved fitment that fills the fenders more aggressively than factory while maintaining full reliability.
- Recommended Front: 20x10 ET25
- Recommended Rear: 20x11 ET25
- Street Tires: 285/35R20 Front, 305/30R20 Rear
- Performance Tires: 295/30R20 Front, 315/30R20 Rear
Why this setup: ET25 on both axles pushes the wheels outward to sit flush with the GT-R's factory fender line — a significant improvement over the tucked factory offsets. The 285/305 tire combination provides an enormous combined contact patch (over 24" of rubber across all four corners) while maintaining the ATTESA system's calibrated front-to-rear rolling diameter ratio. The GT-R's front fenders are notably tight, so ET25 is the lowest recommended front offset without fender work. Going lower risks contact with the inner fender liner during hard steering inputs.
20" Aggressive — Widebody & Big Power Builds
For modified GT-Rs with widebody kits, rolled/pulled fenders, or builds exceeding 800 hp, lower offsets and wider wheels are necessary to accommodate the massive tire widths needed to put that power to the ground. This is serious territory — consult with us before ordering to confirm clearances for your specific build.

20" Widebody Stagger
Maximum width for big-power builds. Requires fender modification.
- Recommended Front: 20x10.5 ET15
- Recommended Rear: 20x12 ET15
- Street Tires: 295/30R20 Front, 325/25R20 Rear
- Drag Tires: 305/30R20 Front, 335/25R20 Rear (for builds with drag-oriented goals)
- Fitment Note: This setup requires rolled/pulled rear fenders or a widebody kit. The front may require minor trimming of the inner fender liner. Essential for drag-oriented builds needing maximum rear contact patch to deploy 1,000+ hp.
Why this setup: Beyond 700 hp, the GT-R's factory tire widths become the limiting factor for traction. A 12" rear wheel with a 325–335mm tire provides the contact patch needed to deploy four-digit horsepower without overwhelming the rear axle. The low ET15 offset pushes the wheel outward to fill widebody fender flares. The 10.5" front with 295mm tire also significantly improves front-end grip, which is critical for cornering and braking on a car this heavy and powerful.

R35 GT-R Tire Selection Guide
The GT-R's combination of extreme power, AWD, and weight creates unique tire demands — the tires must handle both massive longitudinal loads (acceleration/braking) and high lateral forces simultaneously.
- Street Performance: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (285/35R20 + 305/30R20) — the benchmark for street-driven GT-Rs. Excellent wet grip and strong enough sidewalls to handle the car's weight without deflection.
- Street/Track Hybrid: Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 (295/30R20 + 315/30R20) — significantly more grip than the PS4S. The stiff sidewall construction handles the GT-R's weight without rolling under high cornering loads.
- Track Day (200TW): Yokohama Advan A052 (295/30R20 + 315/30R20) — highest peak grip in the 200TW class. Transforms the GT-R into a genuine time attack weapon. The A052's heat tolerance handles the GT-R's demanding cornering loads.
- Drag Racing: Toyo Proxes R888R (305/30R20 + 335/25R20) — the GT-R drag community's go-to tire. Excellent longitudinal traction for launches, and the R888R's heat cycle durability means consistent 60-foot times over multiple runs.
Understanding the ATTESA AWD System & Wheels
The GT-R's ATTESA E-TS system constantly varies front/rear torque distribution based on wheel speed sensors, G-forces, and steering angle. This has important implications for wheel selection:
- Rolling diameter matters: Front and rear rolling diameters must match within 1% — larger deviations confuse the ATTESA system and can cause incorrect torque distribution, transmission strain, or stability control intervention at the wrong moments.
- Weight consistency: The ATTESA system uses wheel speed sensors to detect slip. Unequal wheel weights can affect sensor readings — use the same wheel weight at all four corners, or match front-to-front and rear-to-rear at minimum.
- Offset and scrub radius: Going below ET20 front changes the front suspension's scrub radius, which can create steering kickback under hard braking and affect the AWD system's stability calculations. Stay within the recommended offset ranges unless you've accounted for this in your alignment setup.
