ACURA NSX FITMENT

The NSX spans two generations with completely different engineering philosophies and fitment requirements. The classic NA1/NA2 (1991–2005) is one of the purest mid-engine sports cars ever built — an all-aluminum chassis with a naturally aspirated VTEC V6, designed with input from Ayrton Senna. The modern NC1 (2017–2022) is a hybrid supercar with a twin-turbo V6 and three electric motors producing 573 hp. Both are extraordinary machines, but they share nothing in terms of wheel fitment.

Classic NSX (NA1/NA2) — 17" Staggered

The classic NSX has famously tight rear fender clearances and extremely high factory offsets (ET60+). Any aftermarket wheel will sit significantly more flush than the deeply recessed factory wheels. The car weighs under 3,000 lbs — lightweight forged wheels have a transformative effect on an already featherweight mid-engine chassis.

17" Classic NSX Stagger

Respecting the classic proportions with a carefully sized stagger.

  • Recommended Front: 17x8 ET40
  • Recommended Rear: 17x9.5 ET40
  • Street Tires: 225/45R17 Front, 255/40R17 Rear
  • Performance Tires: 235/40R17 Front, 265/40R17 Rear

Why this setup: The classic NSX's body was designed around the factory 15" and 16" wheels with extremely high offsets. At ET40, the wheels sit dramatically more flush than factory — filling the mid-engine car's signature side-scoop silhouette. The tight rear fenders make ET40 the lowest safe rear offset without modifications. The sub-3,000 lb chassis is extraordinarily sensitive to unsprung weight — a forged 17x9.5 at under 17 lbs is a revelation. The VTEC V6's linear power delivery rewards the immediate steering response that lighter wheels provide.

Modern NSX (NC1) — 20"/21" Staggered

The NC1 NSX's hybrid system and three electric motors create a 3,800+ lb supercar that demands lightweight construction at the wheels to counteract its mass. The SH-AWD system tolerates the factory stagger but is sensitive to rolling diameter changes.

  • Recommended Front: 20x9 ET40
  • Recommended Rear: 21x11.5 ET40
  • Street Tires: 245/30R20 Front, 305/30R21 Rear
  • Performance Tires: 255/30R20 Front, 315/25R21 Rear
  • Important: Do not deviate significantly from factory rolling diameters — the hybrid system's regenerative braking and torque vectoring are calibrated for specific wheel/tire combinations.

Why this setup: The NC1's hybrid system adds weight that the original NSX never had to manage. Forged wheels are essential — not just for performance, but for proper load capacity on a car this heavy. The 305/315mm rear tire manages the combined output of the twin-turbo V6 and rear electric motor, while the 245/255mm front works with the two front electric motors for torque-vectoring grip. Saving 5+ lbs per corner on a hybrid supercar dramatically improves the SH-AWD system's response time.
