SUBARU WRX & STI FITMENT

The VA-generation WRX/STI (2015–2021) and VB-generation WRX (2022+) use a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a 56.1mm center bore. These AWD platforms demand square setups to maintain equal rolling diameters across all four corners. The STI's massive Brembo brakes are the primary constraint on wheel fitment, requiring careful attention to spoke clearance.

Quick Reference
Bolt Pattern: 5x114.3  |  Center Bore: 56.1mm  |  Hub Type: Conical Seat  |  Lug Torque: 120 Nm (89 ft-lb)
AWD Warning: Always run square tire setups. Mismatched tire diameters will destroy the Subaru AWD center differential.

18" Square — The Enthusiast Standard

18 inches is the perfect size for the modern WRX/STI, offering a great visual stance, clearance for STI Brembos, and a massive selection of high-performance tires.

01

18" Flush Square

The enthusiast standard for daily-driven and spirited WRX/STI builds.

  • Recommended Size: 18x9.5 ET38 all around
  • Street Tires: 255/35R18 or 265/35R18 Square

Why this setup: ET35–ET42 is the safe range. 18x9.5 ET38 is the legendary Subaru fitment—it pushes the wheels out perfectly flush with the fenders without requiring aggressive camber on stock suspension. The STI's 6-piston Brembo front calipers clear Grip Theory 18-inch forged designs perfectly. The base WRX has smaller brakes that clear everything.

17" Square — Track & Rally-Cross

For dedicated rally-cross, time attack, and HPDE use, a 17-inch wheel reduces unsprung weight to the absolute minimum and provides maximum sidewall for impact absorption.

02

17" Lightweight Track Square

For motorsport applications requiring maximum sidewall compliance.

  • Recommended Size: 17x9 ET35 all around
  • Track Tires (200TW): 255/40R17 Square
  • Warning: Spoke clearance over STI 6-piston Brembos is extremely tight at 17 inches.

Why this setup: Significant unsprung weight savings at 17 inches transforms the car's responsiveness and steering feel. A 17-inch forged wheel can weigh under 16 lbs. The taller sidewall helps put the boxer engine's torque down evenly coming out of corners.
